i HAVE BOUGHT A Hp PAVILION dv6700 (special edition) notebook last week. What i have noticed is the battery drains if the system is in shutdown mode.whenever I plug in,the battery starts charging.Has anyone faced this problem ever?I have done a battery check and it shows it is in perfect condition.Any suggestion of this strange will be appropriated.
Also, could is be because of the fact that the infrared is always on(as we can power on/of with the remote and it connects to the laptop via infrared I am assuming it is always on).I had tried to disable the infrared, but not able to do so.even in the device manager list infrared does not show up.

    Regards

Its normal, just like when you shut down your desktop, it will still use power unless you totally unplug it. Happens with nearly every electronic device, from tv's to cell phone chargers, they use power even when off. So nothing to worry about.

And sometimes if it gets accidentally unplugged and you quickly plug it in again, you may notice that the battery is at like 96% and charging. This is just to help save cycles on your battery, because over time the battery will drain

The way batteries work is they hold a chemical that moves REALLY fast. So what happens is they slowly escape and don't return (hence why batteries have an expiration date). Freezing them slows it down the most.

For Nimh and Li-ion/po cells this is how you lose capacity:

-Batterys have internal vents in it that release gas/chemicals when it is under heat. This also stops batterys from overheating and exploding in your face.

-The gas/chemicals released which is used for the batterys electrochemical reaction can never be recovered, thus reduced battery capacity/life

Which comes down to Heat is the number 1 killer of battery cells

I wouldn't worry about the infrared being on, because it isn't really draining much battery life.
