    battery on its last leg?

    battery meterin task tray shows 53% remaining and 26 minutes left. i have power consumption on laptop. this battery on the way out?

    If MobileMeter says your battery wear level is high, then yup, it's on its way out.

    how do you read it? when charging it varies between 1.5w up to 30w. but that could be cause the power jack is loose.

    There is a wear meter in that software package I believe.

    Yeah, that's pretty bad. Getting a new battery will likely resolve your problem.

    Since it may be dead already, it would not hurt if you try to recalibrate the battery. Sometimes a short battery life is due to insufficient charge due to calibration offset. You may find the instruction at HP.com.

    also could be misleading cause the power jack is loose and the charge rate varies. i was hoping the battery was one of the recalled ones but it wasnt.

    MobileMeter doesn't display the charge rate on my zv5000z at all. I recommend ignoring that. The reported wear level is about what I'd expect for the short battery life you're seeing though. HP is good about replacing batteries that wear down within the first year under warranty. It happens a lot, just the nature of the beast.
