Hi all, I picked up a new V2000z today and while I know that the 6-cell is not supurb, I did not like the time I was getting. I installed Notebook Hardware control and it reports 3 things about the battery:

    Full Capacity- 61568
    Capacity- 44518
    Wear Level- %30

Is this a problem?!? Again, the unit is 8 hours old.

No problem at all. a 6-cell is 44000mWh. Sometimes you will see a little higher since, I believe there's "reserve" capacity. Wear level will increase during the first few uses, then level off most of it's life.

It's a known fact that utilities report the wear level incorrectly. Mobilemeter & BatteryEater Pro does the same thing.

I think whoever supplies the battery to HP/Compaq did shortcuts... Instead of updating the circuitry for the 6-cell batteries, they re-used the 12-cell circuitries.... the result is the "Designed capacity" will always show as higher than the "Fully charged capacity".

OK thanks. Another question, although maybe it need it's own thread...The literature and sticker on the unit say that it is a ML-32 CPU, 1.8GHz. The software and windows report it as 1.6 full, 800MHz on power save. Concerns?

Depends. Are you running applications that required it to go to 1.8? If you mostly browse and type documents, processor will stay at 800Mhz and occasionally shoot up to 1.8Ghz.

Download SuperPi and run 2M. and watch the speed if it goes to 1.8GHz. You can download and use Mobilemeter to watch the speed and temps.

If it doesn't go to 1.8Ghz then you have a problem. Other members of this forum said that they have problems with the AMD64 driver version 1.2.2 (though I'm using 1.2.2 with no problems).

Try uninstalling the AMD64 drivers, and install the older version that came with your computer (check the drivers/application disc).

Wierdness. I must have the latest AMD software provided as it is. The notbook is new as of today, the BIOS is dated as of Jan 2006. All software such as Windows, Notebook Hardware Monitor and CPU-Z all report it as a ML-32, but all also report full speed as 1600MHZ.

yeah... weird. do you mind posting a screen capture of cpuz?

also, pls do try the older the AMD64 drivers. It's not unusual for HP to ship laptops with latest drivers. However, the drivers CD will be older.

The 3rd V2000Z I ordered last month have latest drivers.... but the drivers CD contains older versions.

Nevermind, after reinstalling the latest AMD drivers and a reboot, now reporting 1794.8MHz. Strangeness.
