went to the HP site and build my self 2 notebooks based on the
R3000Z (A64) 3200+
and
R3000T (P4)E 3.0ghz
both same specs,
15.4 wva wsxga+
512mb
54g 802.11b/g + bluetooth
80gb 5400rpm
8x dvd/cd RW
12 cell lithium
both ended up $1528.00
will be using prog such as adobe photoshop, premier, 3dmax...etc.
reading some reviews the pentium currently comes out ahead (small margin) due to the sse3 instruction added in P4 E.
which one of these laptop batteries will last longer ?
does anyone have a similar set up which they can share ?
thnx guys

The R3000z has a GeForce 440 Go GPU with 64MB of dedicated memory, while the R3000T has shared memory graphics (evil). The E in P4E denotes the new high-wattage Intel Prescott core, aka the "Blast Furnace Edition". Battery life will be MUCH better on the R3000z, 3-4 hours in my experience (zv5000z, same guts as the R3000z).
Whenever Microsoft coughs up the 64-bit version of WinXP, whatever minor edge the P4 may have had over the A64 on rare occassions will vaporize. 64-bit Linux has been here for quite some time; I'll vouch for Fedora Core 3. Most of the time the A64 will edge out the P4 on 32-bit code.
Between the R3000z and R3000T, it's no contest. Get the z.
BTW, Microsoft's Bluetooth mouse works well with this notebook. You'll want to buy a pack of NiMH AA batteries for it though. -
I feel I must correct some information here. The R3000T comes with a dedicated video version, it is currently not on the site, which is very new and I think it should be back up very soon. Also it is not a Prescott core its a Northwood. Between the 2 cpu's the AMD is better on battery life, you will get 3-4 hours. The intel you will get 2-3 hours. I have an R3000T and I did have a R3000Z but because of its bad gpu I returned it to get my current model. Both machines are great, I'd say if you will play no 3d games EVER then the AMD is better, if you think you might ever want to play a game, then the Intel system will serve you better with its radeon 9600 128MB GPU. Here are the scores for the system if it helps you decide
R3000T:
Noraml: GPU = 310MHz, Memory = 190.5MHz
aquamark3 = 19,943
3dmark03 = 2,508
PCMark = 3,955
3DMark01 = 9,096
R3000Z:
I don't have them all I just remeber the aquamark was something like
9,300 this is mostly a video test though.
The cpu's head to head the AMD will win most of the time, it also the best on the battery, if you have more specific questions feel free to ask.

Well, OK, if HP will sell you the version with the Radeon 9600 GPU it'll make for a pretty decent gaming machine. But they are selling a mix of Northwood and Prescott core CPUs now, depending on which clock speed you order. Some have the E denoting Prescott, some don't. If you do buy a R3000T, try to get a Northwood core.
I'm not sure what HP is up to. With the limited R3000T and zx5000 configs I figured they were about to bring out replacement models but... nothing. -
same here, I expect a replacemnet soon, always makes me sad because then I want the new one. I'm happy with mine though, once I add my 512 more ram and 7,200RPM drive this month I will have a nice gaming system.
