i have a pavilion 2400 which i had sent in a week ago because there was no video. i guess they changed the motherboard, but they fixed that issue.

however, ever since getting the laptop back, the battery doesn't fully charge. only goes up to 66%.

    what can i do?

    Try this...

    1. Shut down computer and unplug.
    2. Remove battery.
    3. Hold power button for 10 seconds.
    4. Put battery back on and try recharding.

See if that works. Does the charger light up, which indicates charging?

I've had this kind of problem with laptops that could accomodate different battery sizes in the same battery compartiment.

If I'd hibernate with battery A, swap the battery, and then restart with battery B, the battery's gauge system would do something similar whic you are describing.

I suggest you simply restart your system (while doing sendmarksmail's suggestion!)

    Hope that helps.

wipeout - that makes sense because i am using the 12 cell battery and so im assuming while fixing it, they put in a 9 cell.

i will try what was suggested but am having trouble getting the battery out. its jammed in.

Try running the laptop on battery till it reaches ~5% or so, then recharge it. Do this a couple times, that should help as well as steps mentioned above.

You may have to recalibrate the battery. Basically you need to set your power scheme to "always on" and let it run until the notebook shutdown. Then charge the battery like normal. If that doesn't work, you may have a couple dead cells in your battery pack. You may diagnose this problem by using HP's Battery Check utility. http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter/battery/battery_ts.htm

Hey thanks for the link. A friend of mine has an HP with these same problems. I've tried draining and recharging several times, but it never charges fully. I was thinking it might be a hardware issue with the plug, but will give this a try.
