can anyone recommend best program and method to clone my DV6000t hard drive so if I ever need to restore my system on to a new Dv6000t laptop I can easily do it without having to go through reloading software and files.
I currently own a copy of Norton Ghost v10 but heard that it has issues making it unstable and even loading it on your PC can slow your PC down. I don't need that hassle or issue.

I'm using Ghost 9, works great, no slowing down at all. Other apps like Nero can also help backup your harddrive. I think Nero and Ghost are the same, but I'm more familiar with Ghost

The most reliable b/u app I've used is Acronis' True Image (now at version 10). I have used G10, but found it too unreliable for me (generally because of it's inability to "see" my 2 USB drives consistently).

I've never had a problem with G10, but it does slow the system down. That is because the Norton SystemWorks core program needs to be installed for Ghost to work. Unfortunately, SW is the cause of the slow down.

However, it has never failed for me. It only slows the system down during start up though.

I've never had a problem with ATI abusing system resources and the "live" backups are quick and painless. It does have a few services that are installed though they remain relatively invisible.

As for the second issue, the simple answer is yes it will. For a better understanding of what it can do though, you might be better off looking through the user guide. Here's a link to v9.0 info in a 3.5mb pdf:

    http://download.acronis.com/pdf/TrueImage9.0_ug.en.pdf

It's not the latest release, 10 is, but the main components are the same. In addition, Acronis also has a forum where users can seek answers to problems, etc.

In a nutshell, be very sure the app works for you, whether it be Symantec, Acronis or any other backup/restore utility. It's the only thing between you and a catastrophe.
