Has anyone experienced better battery life with vista than with xp? I've recently installed vista ultimate on my nc6400 and i seem to get better battery life with vista. In addition, my notebook seems to run cooler too.

    any other experiences?

Did you install any HP battery utility? That may be why you're getting good battery life.

what does the battery utility have to do with battery life? It's just a utility that measures the wear level and determines if there are any defects.

I'm not sure what HP's battery utility does, but I know that Thinkpad's battery utility allows you to lower eyecandy and performance for better battery life. Perhaps yours does the same thing automatically since you have a business model.

I get about the same amount of battery life, but I suspect I get a little more on XP. HP has a custom power management profile for Vista that you can download from its drivers and support site.

Vista Ultimate uses more power (thus hotter) to keep up with the eye candy and performance but when you tweak it to "performance" only mode, the battery lasts as long as XP or longer.

FYI, i achieved better battery life by not using the aero theme, disabling superfetch, and setting the power profile on "power saver".
