    Hello,
i would like to buy a nx9420 or a nw9440 but i dont know which new types are coming soon.

my problem with these models are: the nx9420 has only a mid-class-graphic card, and the nw9440 is rather expensive and has a special cad-graphics-card which could make problems with games.

    who knows more?
    thanx for help

The nx9420 comes w/ an Ati X1600, which is pretty good already. The X1600 stands above the 7600go, and pretty much the same as the new
    X1700.

The Quadro graphic cards is not built to play games, but for server/workstation use. It depends on what you're going to be doing and what apps you run.

I would get the X1600 if I were you, as it's NOT just any old gfx card. The X1400 is more of the mid-class card. X1600 will give you high settings in the latest games if not the max settings. It's only a few miles away from the new 7700go card from nvidia, and virtually no performance difference compared w/ the new X1700 from ati.

edit: X1600 is actually better than nvidia's 7600go

The HP nw9440 NVIDIA comes with Quadro FX 1500M (based on the Go 7900GS) which is powerful enough, professional video card. It is designed for demanding 3D apps. ... but it's good enough for games either. Yes, those cards are usually expensive, I would not buy such a card, if I didn't use it for what is designed for.

As for the nx9420, the X1600 is good card but for a 15" notebook, so I personally would not buy a 17" notebook with video card for 15" notebook but that's me.

    HI 606320,

Based on this logic what happens if you wait for the x1900 and then ATI brings out 2000 or 3000 series a couple of months later? My point is if you wait for the latest and greatest tehcnology you will be waiting forever because there is ALWAYS something newer and bigger and better in the works when it comes to technology.
You have to determine what it is you are looking for and what it is you want to do with it. When you determine that you need to ask yourself what are you willing to pay for it. Then get what fits those parameters. If it's bragging rights your after forget it there is always going to be a bigger better faster machine out there somewhere.

I got a NX9420 and ran some 3d Mark test and was surprised. With the standard HP drivers I got; 8.253 drivers
    1740

With Latest Omega drivers 6.9 3.8.291
    1726

and then I modded refrence ATI driver 6.11 to work in the lappy
    1723

    Strange

Thats at stock speed. In the process of using ATiTool to overclock and see what I get.

    Any one else

    Dave
