this is interesting, i have a 1011NR that has about 1 month warranty left on it. i was experiencing read issues with blu-rays (the drive i have is the Toshiba/Samsung TS-TB23L. when i called it in the replacement drive they sent me is a Sony Optiarc BC-5600S.

have folks been having any troubles with the Optiarc drives ? i do a lot of BD/DVD to MP4 conversions of my own movies and so i've come to find laptop drives are lesser quality than desktop drives, but in the world of laptop drives, Sony seems to do better than the others ....

anyone that's into this stuff please comment or let me know of your experiences. i plan to pop the laptop open later to do this swap. it's a bit of a pain to do, but not as heavy as replacing the display.
