hello everyone, i currently have a zv5405 pavilion lappie and i keep encountering a problem at start up.. When i turn on my laptop it gives me a series of beeps. 1 long followed by 2 short beeps. after that the screen remains black. I then would have to hold the power button to turn it off n try again. Something it does this sometimes it boots up fine. Tried contacting hp n they couldnt help me. I was wondering what does the beeps mean n what should be my next step? thanks

    first see this link

I would recommend reseating the RAM first as the link says, there is also a link on that page describing how to do that.

Also try googling HP error codes and see if you can find anything relating to those beeps you're hearing

Looks like something is wrong with your hardware. Check RAM-sticks first.

Your RAM is damaged or locked. Try to find another memory stick and take out you RAM sticks and put this one only, if is working, try to find someone with a similar laptop and put your bad sticks in that laptop. Sometimes the ram sticks are just locked and need another computer to unlock themselves. It happened to me several times ( I'm a systems eng.).
    Good Luck!

i tried reseating the RAM and it still gives me the beeps occasionally. I even called HP and three different tech gave me three different reason why my lappie is doing what its doing but none gave me a solution. according to the website with the beep codes (1 long 2 short) , its saying its my video adapter. :( blah not sure what else to do but to just send it in to HP n have those guys mess with it. but from what i heard from their tech support i dont feel comfortable sending them my lappie

graphics card, thats unfortunate. I would do what kekinash said before anything else however.
also how old is the laptop, and how much was it? Because there comes a point where due to the age of the computer and the cost of repair compared to the purchase price its best to buy a new one. Mostly because changing the video card requires a new motherboard since the video card is soldered to the motherboard, unlike a desktop, which can make it a bit pricey. Also once a computer gets older and stuff starts going wrong, it can start to snowball and components start frying left and right.

I also have the same DV2200 CTO notebook with GeForce 7200 gfx card bought in April 2007 and same problem 1 long beep and 2 short beeps with blank screen. After trying several times it will boot normally. Somt times it asks for hardward/software problem detection and fix while booting. But even if you choose to repair no luck.

I spent almost 50 hrs with Hp cusomter support in last 45days. I sent my laptop to HP 3 times. First time they replace with wrong grpahics card and problem not fixed. setn it back again second time, again replaced with another wrong graphics card without fixing the acctul problem. Now third time the laptop is with Hp, I don't have hopes with HP sending me back with working condition.

Do you guys have any other suggestion where to repair? Any alternate repair center.
