    hey all!
i just got my new dv4030 from compusa today, and all i can say is holy sh*t. compared to my last notebook (a REALLY old winbook xl2) this thing rocks. I purchased the dv4030 for a price of $1199 USD (after rebates) but got an extra $100 off because it was out of stock and i had to wait!

so far i am impressed with all the features that this comp has to offer. sturdy construction (as sturdy as plastic can be) gives it a good feel to the touch. the keyboard is really nice, with no flex downward when pressed upon. It is also layed out rather nicely with a windows button in the proper place (lower left side). My only complaint is that the delete key seems to be a bit "higher" up on this keyboard than it was on the last one.

neither does either of the "palm" areas give under the weight of my hands. the trubright screen (or whatever name brand it is) looks fantastic, and does glare as bad as i thought that it might when looking at the model in the store.

So far the only thing that i dont like that i have run into has been the speakers. My g/f just bought a toshiba with Harmon-Kardon(i think thats the correct brand name) speakers and it put my speakers to shame when they were cranked up playing a sampling of music.

overall i would give this comp a 9 out of 10, and would suggest it to anyone looking for a solid platform for regular use (office, school, etc). since i have not loaded any games on it (yet ;P ) i cannot say how it performs in that arena. by far a great deal for the price which i paid (even without the extra $100)

If anyone else would like more specific details, please ask an i will do what i can to help you out.

thanks to everyone who helped me out with my purchase!!

    Anthony

I was going to get that one too until I saw the dv4040. For $100 more, it has twice as much RAM (1 gb) the next step up processor (Pentium M 740 1.73), and better sound (HP Premium). I figured that to upgrade to that much RAM from the 512mb of the dv4030 would cost me $100 anyway, not even considering the slightly faster processor or better sound.
