I would -- without hesitation.

Depends on how you purchased it and what support options if any you added (if purchased online). You definitely need to have that screen fixed, but if you have the extended support plan, you might be able to get somebody out to your house to have them replace the LCD. However, if you purchased this with standard support, then back to HP it goes (or back to the store if you purchased it locally).
As for sluggishness, you need to figure out what is causing that as a few dead pixels won't affect your FPS. With so little information provided I can only recommend to check:
- You don't have a RAID0 mirror across a SSD and HDD.
- You have the latest bios and/or your CPU is throttling.
- You need to update drivers (avoid windows update for video drivers).
- Some other services or process isn't thrashing your CPU.
- etc.

I sort of agree with you. However, I've thought that before and ended up using up my "free look" period waiting for/getting service and ended up having to keep a lemon of a laptop for over a year of tortuous repairs. Granted they all came on site, but it wasn't fun all the same.
The other thing you have to consider is the variable expertise level of the local service technicians coming on-site to effect repairs. It's entirely possible that the tech might unintentionally damage the laptop in other ways while making a repair...which could lead to yet another repair, and then another, and so on and so on...
Then again, it might just need a new LCD and the local tech would be wonderful and you might never experience another problem ever again.
But... if it was me, I'd return it for a new replacement -- and keep exchanging them until I got a perfect one. HP will be able to transfer the Extended Warranty contract to the replacement. -
Suppose it's just the LCD display but otherwise it's a perfect Envy, do you risk sending in a near perfect system because one item needed replacement? Maybe he'll get a perfect LCD on the next model but a raised trackpad? How long do you switch laptops until you have the perfect one? Just something to think about... I'm not saying either argument is wrong, but sooner or later you just want to enjoy the item you spent cash on.
P.S. and this argument is not directly related to HP products as any (and all) manufacturer(s) are affected by this "disease". -
Okay well It goes away... Im curious is it possible that it will get worse or can I live with that and my screen will be fine. Is this a sign that the screen will have permenant dead pixels in the future?

Hi Sharaby03,
After viewing the images you posted I would recommend returning the system as well. HP has a 21 day return policy.

Don't bank on brand new replacements- I've had 5 different ones- they fail to make the par!

What HP will do is set up an RMA for the machine with defects. Then they will write up a new order, mirroring the original. Basically the order should equal the original...THEN...when you ship the machine you purchased, with defects, back...they credit your account...so it should be a wash. With the new machine, you get a new warranty. If you registered the care pack, it was married to your original machine. Once the machine is returned...the care pack is de-activated

Bleh. I'd demand getting an upgrade every time. That's what I did... for the inconvenience. As I stated in a couple other threads, I started at minimum specs for a CTO model, and now I've got the combo mSATA + HDD drive and a Core i7-2360QM for the same original price ($960).
-
LOL wetwillycf, who's your case manager?
-
Her name was Ruth. Hey, on my first one, I got the mSATA + HDD upgrade, then the second time around, I got the i7 upgrade. The first one was with customer support, and the second was with Ruth. I was very adamant on the phone both times, but Ruth was really easy to work with and it took all of about 5 minutes to get what I want (she even offered to upgrade). The first one, well, that was a couple hours of arguing on the phone with the Sales folks (they handle returns, exchanges, etc.) after the Tech Support guy said my system was effed. The issue was more than a H/W problem though... I bought mine originally with that ridiculous free XBox and it made everything so miserable... eventually, I had to buy a new one with an upgrade and they discounted it on top of my EPP discount. So I guess it wasn't a standard free upgrade sort of deal, but either way, I got what I wanted.
Like I said though, Ruth took care of me, and offered to upgrade me before I could ask when I got my 2nd replacement! That was after I sent it in to get it repaired and it came back all sorts of messed up (bubble in case/poor screw placement, didn't tighten screen hinge screws, created an admin account on my system even though the repair had no need of even logging into my machine). -
So, whats the update on your system?
brand new envy, dead pixels?
