My brightness buttons do not work once I am booting. i.e. FN + f7 and FN + f8.
They work before booting, and in the BIOS screens.
Does anybody know how to fix this?
I'm not sure if it's an update I applied, or some kind of sofware conflict. Other Fn combinations seem to work, though.

Do you have any logitech devices that you are using? (external keyboards, mice, etc)? Logitech's SetPoint software is known for disabling the brightness controls. To re-enable the brightness controls, you must uninstall the SetPoint software.

Wow, that's really dumb... Would reinstalling set point make them work any better?
I have 3 logitech devices that use set point and one actually needs setpoint to control the buttons (i use a vx rev mouse that i have many shortcut buttons for in CAD programs and a normal mouse/keyboard for use on a TV). -
No, I don't. I do have a Rocketfish bluetooth dongle and BT optical mouse connected, though, using WidComm software.

Having the same problem here which only showed up after a clean install. Everything works including the quicklaunch buttons and even some of the fn+f buttons (print, www, play/pause, etc.), but not the lock or brightness ones. Very confusing.

I ended up restoring from a full PC backup I did a week ago, and my problem is fixed.
I'm not sure what happened (was it an update or something else). -
Once booted the brightness keys will function. It's usually fn/f6 ~ fn/f7

Any other suggestions besides doing a restore, possibly some driver or software that needs to be installed to control those brightness functions?
Update: After reinstalling the drivers for the mouse and touchpad, the function buttons seem to be working. -
this is a weird issue... today it happened to me and i had not installed anything new. I kind of freaked out a little but after a restart i havent had any problems. I'll update if anything happens.
