    Hi all,

I am buying a dv2000t and am debating whether to get the brightview screen or not. I am concerned with the glare - how bad is it? Is it worth it over the matte finish? Actually, there is a free upgrade, but I'd just like to know what people think of the bright screen.

    Thanks.

Depends on your conditions/preferences. Some love the extra saturation and color a glossy screen offers. Others cannot stand the glare. If you are working in a place where there will be glare, for example, a place with bright overhead lighting, the glossy screen may not be for you. I have had both a glossy and matte screen and personally I prefer the matte option. You may want to check a few of these threads out for input, but in the end its' personal taste.

I liked the brightview. It's in all the stores; are you not near a store to go see?

It depends too on what you want it for. Office work? Matte probably. Movies, games. Glossy. A generalization of course, because preferences differ. If all else fails, go to the library and sneak a peak over people's shoulders. It's easy to tell the mattes from the glossies.

I had the same question before I bought mine. Now I can say for sure that glossy is great. go for a glossy.

Unless you have a big window behind you, reflection won't be a problem.

I'm going to use the computer mainly for word processing, matlab, excel, web surfing, etc. However, I do enjoy watching movies and whatnot. I have read many threads and just can't get a feel for whether glossy is worth it if the laptop's main use is the above.

Look at different models in an electronics store if at all possible.

I have a dv6000 series with bv. You learn to look past the glare. It's like those 3d stereo pictures, your eyes adjust.

Remember, I have more screen than you will, so I have more chances of glare! I also use matlab, photoshop etc etc.

My use of the computer is similar to yours. I've been using my laptop with brightview screen for more than 1 yr, but I am never able to get used to it. The reflection of the screen makes it hard to read in library or other open areas. No glossy screen for my next computer for sure.

    Hi inm8#2,
I have a dv5030Z with brightview and I still like the screen after a year of ownership. The glare has not been a problem with mine, but I don't work in bright sunlight with it either. I use mine for studying books, word processing, some games, web surfing and e-mails. The best advise was go to a store and compare the two screens side by side.
Good Luck with your laptop either way.

Thanks everyone for the insightful comments. I'm heading to Best Buy right now to check out the screens for myself and make a decision. I want the glossy screen and just need to make sure the glare/reflections don't bother me too much.

Okay, I definitely got the brightview. The glare isn't that bad, even if there are fluorescent lights or windows. I didn't mind it so much - the screen is much more vivid and a little bit of reflections is worth it.
