I bet your running Windows Live Messenger. Stop Windows Live Messenger from booting on startup and don't run the program. I had the same problem. The cam works fine as long as Windows Live Messenger isn't running. It's too bad because I like that program. An external web cam works fine with Windows Live Messenger, just not the internal HP cam.

It works with Windows Live Messenger mostly, but that is the program that causes the problems. When you sometimes stop Windows live messenger and or start a different Webcam program after using Windows Live Messenger, then sometimes the webcam can't be found again unless you restart your computer. If you don't believe me, just stop using Windows Live Messenger for a while and use Yahoo messenger and quickplay. I bet you will have no more webcam can't be found errors. You must disable Windows Live Messenger from starting up automatically on Windows booting up for the webcam to always work.

Which bios version you're using? I had that problem haunting me until I upgrade to F.27 (not a bad BIOS at all).

Eallan, check the end of the thread. There's a new webcam driver that HP has released, but not announced.
