I would recommend you buy nowjust make sure that HP provide you with the Vista-upgrade coupon. The only thing that I can think of worth waiting is AMD's new production line (60nm CPUs) but since you shoot for an Intel that's not for you. Quadcore cpus will take a whille before appearing in laptops. I can't see anything significant that can make you sorry for your purchase (except for price decreases of course but that's surely going to happen with any piece of technology :))

I don't think they are gonna upgrade the card. They don't do many higher end cards on their consumer notebooks.

I ask myself that same question 3 mths ago :p

End up I bought a dv6000t 2 week ago b'coz of the "NEED" in my work.

If u can wait & not in hurry to buy a notebook, the January is just 1 mth away but I doubt HP will come out new model once Vista is ready in Janaury (I doubt that as well).

May be February or March then HP will offer better graphic card for Vista, may be i be wrong is this as well. Just have to wait & see.

But the longer u wait, u will want to wait for longer period in the end just like me :( End up i just bought my lovely dv6126tx & very happy with it :D

    Hi Joystick,
When you find the features you want, in a machine that can do what you need, at a price you can afford then it is time to buy.

Bad news. Laptops are a highly competitive market with many rapidly advancing technologies (e.g., CPU, GPU, LCD, Wi-Fi, batteries, software, et al). You can be certain that every few months HP laptops will have improved performance, features, and prices. Unless you devote yourself to buying a new laptop every few months, you can be sure that your laptop will suffer continuous depreciation from the day of purchase. On the other hand, every day that you fail to purchase a new laptop is another day that you live without the benefits that the device can deliver.

Under such circumstances, I would argue that the only rational time to purchase a new laptop is when you "need" it. Otherwise, you should wait while the products get better and your "need" becomes greater. Of course, "need" is a very personal concept. You may "need" a laptop (and its features) for work or school. You may "need" it because of the games you want to play. You might "need" it because you have money burning a hole in your pocket and you feel compelled to get a new toy. You are the only one who understands whether you "need" a new laptop today or whether you can wait for the inevitable next round of product improvements. Keep waiting until you know that waiting is a mistake because you "need" the laptop now and no longer care whether tomorrow's laptop will be a better deal. (It will be.)

Well said, I guess the word "NEED" is the most important decision in whether to buy now or wait.

Both ATI and Nvidia have new integrated chipsets out or about to come out (1250 for ATI, yet unnamed for Nvidia). HP is going to release new models after vista. The ATI chipset specifically was touting how much better and faster it is for Aero.

Hence, you'd be a dolt to think otherwise than their updating the GPUs by the end of January. I'm going to wait for this specific reason.

    .

    Joystik,

As noted by Saneless and others, now is really NOT a good time to buy.... unless you NEED a laptop now.

Besides the GPU's (the video card) being upgraded on new models in the next few months alot of improvements are coming out..

Google Vista + Hybrid hard drives, Santa Rosa for example.

I hope HP also does the hybrid-video card thing Sony did with its SZ (was it the SZ? I dont rememeber). I'm really temped to buy a dv2000t right now!!!...but its not available in Canada yet....I hope =( .As for Santa Rose whats going to be improved? less power consumption? faster?

If you need to buy this laptop "by January", you may as well do it now. Any new models won't be released until after Vista, which means February. I wouldn't really expect a major redesign until Santa Rosa, which is supposed to be in April.

As far as the OS goes, you're better off getting XP: MCE with the upgrade coupon. That way you can choose to run XP until Vista has all its bugs ironed out. If you buy a notebook preloaded with Vista, you're stuck with it. That might be a problem if you need to use a piece of software that is not Vista compatible ( my university requires the Novell Client to access network resources, and Novell has stated there won't be a Vista version until 60-90 days after Vista is released  ).

Also, despite companies trying to hype up how much you need to buy their newest graphics chip for Vista, I've installed beta 2, RC1, and RC2 on Gateway M465Es at work (Radeon Mobility X1300 w/64MB dedicated, 64MB shared) and Aero runs perfectly smoothly with all the fancy effects turned on. If you get the Geforce Go 7200 offered on the dv2000, I think you should be just fine.

New stuff always comes out a month or two after your purchase. You just have to deal with it, or you'll always end up waiting for the next big thing.

thanks you both, i totally agree with you guys. I think i will be placing my order now. Technology keeps on moving, and i cant be buying a new laptop every couple of months. If the dv2000t can handle photoshop, and other daily apps well then i dont really need anything stronger.
