I would buy it online since HPShopping only charges tax in a few states and you can customize it.

I don't know if this would be true for you, with the business laptops, but both my brother and sister bought their hp notebooks at a Samsclub store and got amazing deals. The Dell equivilant of my brothers would have been $800 more, and the same hp configured online was easily over $300 more. My sisters was about the same. I bought a refurb, so I couldn't buy one at samsclub, otherwise I would have too.

Sam's Club has great deals onextended warranties too, if you're into extended warranties.

buy from Costco because you most likely end up getting disappointed by HP laptop and they offer nice return policy including shipping charges.

You can still customize build-to-order HP machines at Costco, Staples, Office Depot, etc. It's not only HPShopping.com where you can customize exactly the way you want.

The store just makes the sale, the order still goes to the same factory in China where it is custom-configured to your specs. My DV1000 that I bought at Staples was cheaper than HPShopping (even with EPP discount) and cheaper than Costco. Even though I paid tax at Staples and wouldn't at HPShopping. Many stores offer great prices on customized machines when they are running a good sale. It pays to shop around.

I'm still very, very, angry that there are no Staples stores at all in Houston, even though I've seen these morons run some TV ads.

    rahul is a him ;)

But yeah, buying online to get precisely what you want, saving some $$$ and saving on tax is my vote, going to the store to get that hands on look is a wise move. that's where HP has the advantage over Dell, Lenovo and Fujitsu -- they do a great job of getting into retail stores. Including even Wal Mart soon, so the rumor goes.

I sent an email to Staples and said that someone in Houston was simply DIEING for them to come to Houston, and would they be growing there soon?

Here's the reply I got back from them:

We feel really complimented by your recommendation for a Staples Superstore in the Houston area. We at Staples are always looking to expand and offer our amazing prices, services, and products to more people. We take the feedback from our customers most seriously; I will be forwarding your
suggestion to the division of growth and development here at Staples headquarters.

I'd order it online if you can, but it's good to get some in-store experience with the laptop first. That way, you can be sure that you know what you're getting. ;)

I ordered my HP online, was very easy. No tax, free shipping, and I had it customized to my needs.

If you have a Costco nearby, you may consider ordering from them. You can customize it there, and they have a wonderful 6-month return policy - that's unsurpassed.
