    can i install vista on my compaq v3000.....

    hi, my brother bought a v6000 came with visa premium. it has the same spec (identical everthing) has my v3000. i have xp on mine. can i install the backup vista cd using the same key from his laptop on mine since they are identical in everyway until i could buy my own vista. will i have any problem by doing this?

    u can't use the same key.., but u can install vista as a dual boot trial to see if you like it.. that way you won't loose your xp..
    Not everyone will like Vista. I personally like it better.

    btw: Vista Home premium is pretty cheap on newegg.com site.
    but I would do a dual boot.

    how would they know that the key has been used twice. it could be that he formated the laptop again and used the key. i remember with dell and their oem cd xp could be use with different machines. so what would it happened if i use the key from his vista.

    well i guess worst thing that can happen is vista rejects it, and doesn't let u update, but anyhow u still get a trial for a certain about of days.
