Hi - I assume you're asking about the dv2000? I have had no problems with XP Pro on f.23 in my dv2000t. Also have a second SATA drive running a trial version of Vista with no problems. Intel Speed Step enables the processor to be throttled to save battery power - easy way to check proc speed is to r/click on My Computer and pick properties. You can see your processor type, current frequency and amount of RAM installed on the GUI that pops up (Sorry if you already knew that....)

Could someone elaborate on the drive header protection?

Btw, how do I go about backing up my current BIOS incase the upgrade goes bad?

    TIA

This doesn't directly answer your question about BIOS, but if you watch during the HP BIOS update - it backs up the current BIOS then goes thru multiple steps writing the new BIOS data to the motherboard. It also won't run unless you have both battery and adaptor power.
