try gently with some canned.air around the underneath area and see. light tapping on top to see if it can be unstuck.

removing and replacing a laptop keyboard key (the holding mechanism differs from one laptop to another) is not always straight forward and u might end up super.glue it back.

sending it back if it is still new is a safe bet. yeah .- it is a pain and frustrating wait

    cheers ...

I would pull the key up carefully & firmly and then look and see if anything is stuck down there (remove if possible) and then push the key back onto the keyboard gently but firmly until it "clicks" back on. This has helped many of the keys I had on various laptops.

If all else fails ask HP to send you a new keyboard rather than you sending them your computer. A keyboard transplant is relatively easy.

SOunds like ya got gook in the keyboard. You should be able to fix it though. But to really clean it out it might easiest to remove the whole keyboard first. That way you can look for other junk in there too.

You can go to the HP site for your system and then select the MANUALS link to download the service manual for your system.

From there you can see exactly how to take the keyboard out. After that it's just a matter of figuring out how to remove the keycaps. Just be careful as someone mentioned the mounting for the keycaps can be fragile. Also there is a ribbon cable which connects the keyboard to the system and it helps to know it';s there when taking the thing apart for the first time...and yes you need to disconnect that cable to remove the keyboard...it's not hard to do...

    good luck!

    cheers guys, all excellent comments!

i'll get to work on it straight away and let u know how it goes.

it's just so annoying when everything else works so well and then just one little thing can be really frustrating.

thanks again for your practical advice, really appreciated

When I tried to take my key off I broke it :( I just got it back from HP yesterday. Good service though. Got a brand new keyboard.
