This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     can't get laptop to display in external monitor

    Have a 3 year old HP Pavilion. I've used it with my external monitor for years. All of a sudden tonight -- I hook up the external monitor -- hit the fn key along with the f4 key which should display the desktop on the external monitor -- and nothing happens. Not the box that says switching to external monitor. Nothing. I've checked all the connections the monitor is on but no go.

    Anybody have any ideas?
