I have an HP dv6700 (dv6883cl) notebook computer. It has s-video and hdmi outputs. I want to watch netflix on my tv and send the sound to my receiver. My TV takes s-video and my audio receiver takes HDMI. (I tried hooking up the notebook headphone jack to the receiver, but it sounded awful.) As soon as I switch the notebook to s-video output, the HDMI signal goes off.How do I get output on both s-video and HDMI at the same time?

Upgrade to XP!
Aside from that, run the HDMI into your receiver, then from your receiver to the TV. -
Yeah, I would have to agree with Wintersdark's statement.

Thanks for the suggestion. It would work except I have an older HD TV and it accepts only s-video, component, and composite - no HDMI. I guess I'm SOL. I did find an HDMI to component video converter, but I don't really want to shell out $150 for it.

Don't use the hdmi cable.
You can buy a mini-stereo to rca cable, just hook it up to your headphone jack. These cables are fairly cheap, $5.99 or so at Best Buy. -
I tried the headphone to RCA connection, but it sounded awful. It had a lot of noise and bad sound quality. From what I read on other forums, there's an impedance mismatch when you do it that way. It may be OK for some laptop-receiver combinations but it didn't work well for me.

I don't know if you have a use for the HP Quickdock other than this application but it has an SPDIF output, component video outputs, composite video output, s-video output, plus others. I am sure you can find a way to hook up using this device. Not cheap but you should be able to find a good price online. Not the cheapest price but officemax has them on sale this week for $100.
I would be surprised if your audio device didn't have an SPDIF input. -
Thanks deeastman - I'll check it out. I'm not sure exactly what spdif is. My audio receiver has coax and optical inputs as well as RCA. Which one does the spdif from the quickdock connect to?

The SPDIF connector on the quickdock is coax. Just got mine yesterday and love it. Worth the $100.
