I configured and purchased a dv5t online, and then "requested" to cancel my order within 24 hours. The cs rep told me that they can only request to have the notebook canceled and I would have confirmation in 3-5 days of whether or not it was succcessful. I then confirmed the cancelation "request" again, 72 hours after initial order during the process of RMAing the docking station that had already been delivered.
And of course, I recieve confirmation this morning (day 4 since the cancelation request) that my laptop is indeed in the mail.
have any of you had similar problems with HP? I'm wondering if this is thier procedure, hoping that I'll decide to keep the laptop since I have it in my hands and my money is already tied up, or is HP really this inept? After I'm done RMAing the notebook, HP will have wasted a lot of money processing an order that they knew had been requested to be canceled.
Also take into consideration the times I was placed on hold, the number of times I was transferred, and the unusual procedures being followed ("Please hold while I call Margaret in the wareshouse to request your cancelation request"), and this whole experience has not instilled much confidence in my perception of HP.

If I read the HP Website, they pretty much state that once you place the order there is no going back. That is why they have a 21 Day Return policy, so as soon as you get your laptop call them up for a RMA and return it
-
You have to request a supervisor. Tell them you need to cancel it, but will purchase another notebook. Don't give in. Tell them to cancel it right now.

It's got to be the dumbest policy and order cancellation procedure ever developed in the history of sales.
I mean I asked both of them why the hell do you have to have a "Log to be canceled"? Why can't you simply CALL the manufacturing plant in China or wherever the hell they're building these laptops and tell them to STOP building the **** thing!
They have no answer other than that they have no authority over the process. That it will be the cancellations department that does that.
So I asked for the number to that department. The woman claims that she can't give me that information. That in fact no one in the entire company can give me that information.
At this point I was furious and just blasted them.
Absolutely disgusting...I about gave up and considered going with a Dell. -
You don't need to be mad at them. Sometimes that's the system that they have to deal with daily. I did cancel my laptop orders before from HP, Dell, and Costco and I didn't have any problem. They told me I may still receive the package so I have to return it. It turned out I didn't receive anything and I've got full credit back. If they deliver your package, you can reject it and it'll shipped back to HP. Otherwise you can call them after that and ask for a shipping label emailed to you. Some of my laptop orders were received within 5 bussiness days so I don't think they were all shipped from China.

usually,,,most folks just refuse shipment at the door,,,but tell hp about it...after they receive it, they will re-fund you ....

I certainly appreciate the difficult position HP is in... it is tough for most major companies to communicate internally. And I can even understand what a nightmare it must be for HP when customers want to cancel CTOs. I initially thought it was wise of them to tell me the cancelation request may not happen just to simply cover their butts if the notebook does get shipped out.
But I called to cancel less than 24 hours after the order was placed and an entire week prior to the notebook being shipped. My debit account had not even been charged at this point. Trust me.. if I transferred the funds from that account and not leaving enough in there to cover the HP bill, HP darn well would have ensured that the notebook hadn't have been built and shipped.
I feel as though they didn't make any attempt to cancel my order, and instead they are probably losing a couple hundred dollars to process the to and from shipping, as well as the cost of reconditioning that notebook for resale or whatever they are going to do with it.
So, a tip for all of you future HP owners that have to absorb the cost of my order difficulties: When I initially requested a "request to cancel" my order, I was offered $70 off the price of the order- even on top of the hundreds of dollars already taken off due to coupons and upgrades and such. -
I've got a Fed-ex express that is a 5 minute walk from my house. It will take me no more than 15 minutes total to request an RMA, print it, and drop it back off at the express. Everything worked really well when I RMA'd the quickdock, so I don't anticipate any more problems. I think the last hurdle will be waiting the "5-7 days"(BS) for my account to be credited. -
Take comfort in knowing that HP is quick to process refunds. A lot of places will take up to thirty days. When I've had to get a refund with HP, it's happened within a week.

in the computer age, seems like you should be able to cancel the day before production...hp could just take orders on that day,,the day before they build....and do it that way..and anyone should be able to cancel up to that date...hp does it the way they are doing it now...because they know about the human mind,,,it changes ideas frequently, and they know customers may find a better deal after making the order...this way,,,, it yours until you ship it back.
canceling orders possible?
