My brother is an architect also. He runs a 17" P4 notebook with the ATI 9600 128MB video card, and a 7200rpm HDD. He bought it specifically for its AutoCAD abilities. He tells me its lightning fast on complicated 3D renders. I run a zt3000 with the ATI 9200 64MB video, and he boasts than mine would be left behind!

So, based upon my brothers advice, if portability and battery arent too important, choose P4 over centrino and the best, highest memory card you can get.
