just got my dv8t back from hp after the recent bios update bricked it. reinstalled windows 7. Im trying to get my fingerprint reader to work. I installed the validity driver and the digital persona software. During the Digital Persona software, it said it cant confirm my fingerprint reader. When i did this before a few months ago, i managed to find a thread that explained it and get it working. now, after 2 hours of searching, i cant manage to find it. anyone have any ideas how i can get this working? any help would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks,

    shaun

When I installed win 7 in my dv6700t and then installed the vista drivers, had the same results as you, BUT then windows update installed new drivers for the finger reader and voila, it worked....

hey, try windows update, can't hurt.

Go to the HP website and download and install the finger print reader program. It should work after that. I had a similar problem when I switched to a new HD and had to reinstall W7. Since then, I've back up everything to disc so I shouldn't have that problem again.

As a side note, I'm not really sure the finger print reader is that much more efficient than just typing in the access number manually. Half the time it takes several tries before it registers anyway.

So, I just got back my dv8t from hp after the bios upgrade went bad. In my efforts to get the fingerprint reader to work, i reset the bios settings. While i was doing this, I noticed that my bios is version F.13 and it says that my computer is a dv6... does this mean that hp swapped my board for a dv6 board or that they just installed the wrong bios or what.. any ideas.. thus far, only problem is i cant get my fingerprint reader work

It is likely both notebooks share the same board, which would make economical sense since they are both offered with the same configuration options.

so, after dealing with hp tech support and letting them remotely control, they managed to do two things... neither of which was get the fingerprint reader to work. They managed to 1. mangle up a system recovery from their own dvd. 2. tell me that the mb they installed is defective and expedite another box to me so i can sent it to the service center. this is horrid.

That link did the trick, thanks!.... I had the driver installed and when I installed the software it said "pending" on the driver installation.. I went ahead and continued and it auto rebooted my machine...... all I had to do was swipe my finger over the reader and the software came up!.. awesome!
