i have a DV6736NR. running on vista with quickplay.
for some reason i cant play a video file from here its the test video link.
what happens when i click on the link is i get a new tab (ie7) with an unable to display webpage error. when im supposed to see the video file open with media player. but when i try to save the video file and play it, it plays fine.
does this have something to do with quickplay? i have set all video files to be played by media player. (i know the file is a .wmv file)
can somebody with a kind heart try and see if you get the same error as i do?better yet if somebody can help me out id really appreciate it as i am doing this for my wife so she can watch her favorite soaps from back home.
thank you very much in advance.

I use winamp and it doesnt run in that either.

No the file associations are just wrong. You just have to change settings so it opens up WMP for internet links, cant exactly remember where. Im definately sure it has nothing to do with quickplay
Using firefox browser should solve it too. Im using firefox right now and it worked perfectly fine. -
Hey, at least something worked for me for once.
It opend WMP and the short advertisement plays. Didn't have to change a thing.
But I do have Vista 64Bit and Installed SP1 a week or so ago. Could have something to do with it working. I did not have to upgrade my DRM.
SP1 must have come iwth the DRM licence updates.
I also did not have to change any file associations. -
thanks. -

Try out VLC Media Player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
It plays just about everything and it has a great minimalistic interface. Better than that crap WMP any day. -

would wmp 10 work fine with vista? im beginning to be desperate guys.. thanks for the help. -
I suggest uninstalling first and re-installing it again. Must be a bug

this happened to me after i installed and uninstalled nero 8 trial version. without really thinking about the ramifications I gave nero permission to become the default player/format for media files. When I uninstalled it left internet explorer with the problem you describe. There are settings to change the default programs which the computer uses to open what files as well as similar settings in explorer. Changed those many times erased all traces of nero i could find including reg. Finally figured out the if I made quicktime the default it would play the video files in explorer but that’s not the point i feel when i uninstall a program it should be as it was before and WMP still was not working. While I was trying to fix this I installed firefox which asked what program I wanted to use to play video files (these settings actually stuck) and I have been pleasantly surprised by firefox since. It is now my default browser. I still have explorer and I still use it on occasion. Since the nero take over I have ran into a few more instances where file names were changde or the default program to open them was altered. I think I have fixed most of the though I never did figure out how to get media player to work properly with explorer. Was going to call Nero but now I don’t really care because I have FireFox.

guess spoke to soon! i cant uninstall wmp11 in vista. the article i read applies to XP!
thanks ryan. guess thats an option i will have to try now. -
FIREFOX is the answer! its a BIG shame though how a multibillion company as MSOFT cant provide any answer to a problem another company can solve.
tsk tsk tsk.. thanks again guys.. -
Told you so..
You should be using firefox anyway. IE is really buggy and has security issues. I stopped using IE along time ago -
just thought id give IE7 a chance...
cant view video file
