Is there an easy way to test if the problem is a driver glitch or a hardware malfunction? My drive will load cd's and dvd's and make the whirring noise, even the curser hour glass appears and is attempting to read. But then stops entirely. The Computer icon won't recognize a cd installed and shows both drives as empty when clicked for info. Help?

    3 are listed -
    CO6526P PCP050J SCSI CdRom Device,
FS7814S LOM270P SCSI CDRom Device and
    HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4082N
The device manager says they are all working properly??

    Try the following steps. :D

    Go to Run
    Type Regedit
    Press Enter or click Go.
    Find: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/
    {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
Then, on the right side, delete "Upperfilters" and "Lowerfilters" Registry Keys.

Then restart and retry using the drive. :)

Looks complicated, but its pretty easy. Just follow the steps. :)

    Your Welcome. :)
