hi i need a new charger for my laptop can people show me what one i need to buy, would i need to buy from hp or are there any cheaper alternatives out there

You could look on EBay. You could also get a Universal Notebook Power Charger.

Usually it is better to get a charger directly from HP, unless you know the exact part number and can verify that it isn't some third party knockoff. The universal thing might work, but a lot of them require you to buy the right "tip" for your notebook...and you might have a difficult time finding one to match the nc8430.
Anyway, check out the 90W adapters on this page for more info on what you need. -
your best bet is to get it from hp -
the NC8430 has an out of the ordinary charger tip. I bought a charger online and it did not fit. It was the "Hi Capacity model AC-C14" so whatever you do don't buy one with that part number, even if it says it's for the NC8430.

I was just about to post something along the same lines.
I read somewhere (I think in the offical Hp docs) that the Business Line model machines use a special "FAST-CHARGE" charger.
I was reading that in reference to a HP / Compaq nx6325 RB526UT#ABA
HOT DEAL !!!! $500 after $100 HP mail in rebate. This unit being priced normally at $975
