I am looking to purchase a used Envy 14, but want to make sure I understand the differences between the various generations. Please correct if wrong or if there is a thread with all this info in it please link! Thanks!

The Envy 1xxx is first gen with nehalem CPU, AMD 5 series GPU, and all have the 1600 x 900 radiance display.

The Envy 2xxx is second gen with sandy bridge CPU, AMD 6 series GPU, with choice between radiance display and 768 brightview

The Envy 3xxx is third gen with ivy bridge CPU, AMD 7 series GPU, with choice between radiance display and 768 brightview

Finally decided the envy looked like the right notebook (amazing computer for the price!), but having the radiance display is a must and want to make sure I've got this right before I order one since I havent been able to find a comparison of the different gens and I dont really trust the specs people list on ebay.

Also, how is the heat/fan noise with quad cores in these notebooks?

    Much appreciated!

everything is correct except for the 3000 series - envy 1#-3000 series have intel sandy bridge and amd 6000 generation (ie. 7690 is a 7000 gpu, but in terms of hardware it is a 40nm 6000 generation).
envy 1#-3200 have ivy bridge cpus and "real" 28nm radeon 7000 gpus (7700 and above)

heat/fan noise should be fine since the 2000-series.
