So i just got a laptop for my mom from bestbuy and unfortunately there is no reinstall disk for XP home. As i was setting up my computer it asks me if i want to make a recovery disk thing, and the way it sounded, i thought i would get a clean xp home install disk. Is that what i im currently burning 3 dvd's for or am i just wasting my time making a backup of all the bloatware. thanks, btw the program doing this has compaq's name on it so maybe it comes with spyware.

Those discs burn everything including the bloatware. But I would definatly recommend buring it since it is the only way to get back to factory state in case it is needed in the future. If you are thinking of doing a clean install by using your own copy of Win XP, then make a copy of the SWSetup folder since it contains all the necessary drivers to get your laptop working properly.

You might be able to contact HP and get an XP Home OS reinstall disc for $10. I am not sure though, it might be worth a try.
