im just wondering if someone can provide me with guidelines

    im most concerned with drivers
i know how to reinstall windows, i have the key which is on the bottom of my laptop so i assume i can just use any windows xp install disc for a clean
however i do not have a drivers disc being an hp and im not sure i want to pay 15 bucks for an xp disc....

so i dont need any software my hp came with or bells and whistles, just all the drivers and a working clean xp

thanks in advance for any help

Drivers can be downloaded and installed from the HP website. If you have no Windows XP will need to purhcase one from HP, if you still want to retain the license you already have. Otherwise, you will have to buy a whole new license (and CD), the install that way.

do you have a retail version of XP Home, or did the CD come with your notebook? I got an XP Home CD with my dv4000. The key is "built into" the CD so you don't have to enter a key. If you have a retail version, I think it will work with the key on the bottom of your notebook. I wouldn't bet my life on it, but if the MFG says it won't work, I think they are just trying to scare you. My friend does PC refurbishing, he uses a retail version of XP Pro and uses the keys on the back of the desktops to install it. He was told he couldn't do it, but lo and behold it works fine.
