    Current spec:
Intel dual core processor T2390 1.86 GHz Socket P Micro-FCPGA, 2 MB L2 Cache, 533 MHz FSB @ 0.9875v avg 55c to 65c (stock 1.2500v but overheats and reboots in intensive use, Guess don't help that Thailands hot as hell with avg 30c all year round  )
    Memory: 2gb DDR2 pc5300 667MHz
    Motherboard: Hp 30ed
Bios: previously F.33 updated to F.34
Chipset from intel chipset util says gm965 but on cpuz ver1.52.2 says gl960, which can I trust?
Igp: x3100 powerstrip shows the clock @466mhz (Driver 8.15.10.1912)
    17" wide screen
    160gb wd1600bevs 5400 rpm h/d
    5 in 1 card reader
    3 usb 1.0/2.0
    Samsung dvd dl writer
    S video Tv-out
    vga pot
    ethernet port
    atheros 5007 802.11 b/g wifi card
Windows 7 ultimate all latest updates

I bought this laptopa year ago in Thailand while working here
I've been looking for cpu upgrade but no one seems to have this setup closest post i found was A900 series upgrade on this forum bout year ago but the guy never posted back if he upgraded, been looking at the compaq c700 posts looks like they use same bios as mine basically same hardware apart from having 15" screen to my 17" screen and does not include the 5 in 1 card reader which mine has but was wondering which motherboard the c700 use?
I read on gl960 posts that they tried ddr2 667 mhz ram and had problems and they downgraded to ddr2 533 and everything was ok so I'm certain I have Gm965 chipset, out the box was ddr 1gb 667mhz installed so I upgraded to 2gb adding extra ddr 1gb 667.
    Any info much appreciated.

For T2390, it uses socket P, theoretically with GM965 chipset, it can use penryn processor, that use 800 Mhz of FSB, T9500 is the fastest one.

However, I would not suggest you to try penryn unless you find a good CPU seller that willingly to swap the processor if it was not supported.

If you are pretty sure about GM965, HP has listed T7250 and T7100 as the fastest supported processor for your model series. You may see it in Maintenance and Service Guide for your model, here

Hi rief thanks for reply. I've already downloaded the service manual a while back, what I find strange is that they don't even list the cpu I already have in the book as compatible, so makes me think if thats just a dated standard issue service manual for this series and they haven't updated for newer cpu's. I've asked the shop where I bought this if I could upgrade and they just want me to buy a new laptop, which they said "no can not upgrade cpu!" which I know is bull "We have new model very cheap give you good price" I think the land of smiles only smiles when your getting your cash out, mmmmm I just smiled and walked away... the lappy works great I've had it for a year now no problems no need for new 1 unless this 1 was toasted, but would be nice to get some extra juice from the cpu even though runs sweet with win 7 ultimate from xp no slow downs, actually certain things run quicker in win 7.
I might just take a gamble and get a t7700 as its the top model for the family they support, as its not worth getting upgrade for lower end c2d I think be waste of time and money for extra 140mhz x2 but 500mhz x2 extra gig think its more worthwhile, I'm gonna hunt around in the computer malls to see if I can pick 1 up or like you said try before I buy if I can, last resort find 1 online and see what happens.
    thanks

Update: After looking at the compaq c700 series I noticed it shared the same bios and that they where having great success with c2d T7XXX and Penryns.
So bought T8300 Penryn installed works flawless! from 1.86 gzh 533 fsb to now 2.4ghz 800fsb
    added extra 2gb ddr2 667 total 3gb ddr2 667
also installed win 7 ultimate x64
now the whole system runs and feels notably quicker, benchmarks and realtime.
Next upgrade new harddrive any reccomendations on 500gb or 640gb? 5400 or 7200?
    Thanks
