I had one question. I have a compaq armada m700 piii 1ghz(??) 384 mb of ram, dvd drive. When I look in the bios system information it says its a piii 1000mhz processor. However, when I look at the xp system information in control panel . It says piii 696 mhz. I get the same information when I launch a linux cd. Why is this?

Yeha this happens sometimes to me as well with my E500, P3 900 mhz,,... I know on the centrinos, my speed is listed @ 1733 and 799 mhz, probably your System is working at that lower speed.

nvm, I figured out how to make it 1ghz. However, when I boot the Gentoo live disk, it always says 696 mhz unless its plugged in through the power cord. I disabled the intel speed step on the bios but i had no effect.
