Hello all, and thaks for the responses. Trial and error proved that the Dc Dc board was bad. I swapped it out and the Motherboard now powers up. Now that the board powers up, nothing else works. I have 2 known good sticks of PC2100 Samsung RAM and processor installed. The fan goes on and a LED lights but nothing else. I hooked up a external display and no display..goes right to power save. I am taking baby steps here so what would be next? Could the processor be bad? What needs to be functioning for me to get a display and to BIOS? I picked this up cheap to learn and learn I am. The DVD drive also doesnt work but that is the least if my worries...I just want to get to bios. There is a hard drive installed, too. I do not get any beeps on start up, either

Thanks so much for any help..seems like I am going 1 step forward and 2 steps back..LOL

Bump please as I am desperate...

I get power to the board, the keyboard, etc. but when I push the white power button on the Motherboard nothing happens. I have purchased known good memory and no difference. I purchased a processor and no difference. I am at a complete loss and am frustrated because I somewhat know my way around hardware. The processor that I took out read SL6FA and the one I put in read SL6F8. The specs are the same though...1.4 GHZ 400 FSB slot 478. Does the processor numbers have to match exactly? And how do I know what one will work as I read that several speeds will fit. me..LOL

    Kevin

Please help as I want to put this nightmare behind

Just another note///I rsearched the SL6FA processor and some listings say that they are compatible with Dell laptops. Would this work in a n620c? and if not does someone know the exact processor that will work as I do not know the history of what was replaced in this laptop.

    Thanks

    Kevin
