i have a compaq nc8000 it was working fine but suddenly it shutdown and when i tried to restart, the laptop flashes green lights for several seconds and then powers down, even with the power cable connected to it, the fan would run for about 10 secs and then system would shutdown.
I do not get any error messages so i can tell what is the problem?.
    I have win xp pro.

Does the notebook enter the POST screen? It seems as though its a motherboard problem, but thats not for certain yet. Can you also detail any processes the notebook goes through before it shuts down.

No, it just starts and after 5 seconds it shuts dow.
Tonight I was able to start it and i look in the event viewer but nothing strange there. it was good for about one hour, then it went to stand and it did not work again but all the lights were on, the fan and hard drive were working but not video in the screen, I had to shut it down pressing the power bottom few seconds, after that it did not start again.
    Thanks for the help.
