Hi all,
I intend to buy compaq presario r3000t notebook and was wondering if it does support dual channel ddr. Also I wanted to know if theres any opiton to find out if a system does feature dual channel ddr support.I mean like the bios or device manager or something like that. Also does it support PC 3200 or PC 2700 is the best that we could use. Please help me understand and clarify these issues so that I could go ahead and order one.Any inputs would be more than helpful.Thanx in advance.

For any notebook to support Dual Channel memory, it's really dependent on the chipset. If the chipset being used supports Dual Channel memory, then there's a good possibility it might be supported in your notebook. If the system has a 400Mhz FSB, then it will work with the PC3200 memory.
There's another user on this site (DaGreek I believe) that has been looking to findout if his notebook supports Dual Channel memory. You may want to do a search for the username and Dual Channel. Plus, checkout the HP section as well.

I'll help you out the best I can. This computer has a frontside bus speed of 800Mhz and comes with PC2700 running at 333MHz. The motherboard is "ATI Radeon 9100 (RS300). This motherboard dose support dual channel memory. The BIOS for this system has everything hidden! So I can not see if I can enable it once I get my second stick of ram. Now I contacted the HP tech support and they did say if I got another stick of ram it would see it and start running in dual channel but the way the guy answered me didn't instill me with confidence. I plan to contact them again hoping for a better support person. I've read the long as you use certain "name" brands it will support PC3200 the motherboard dose support PC3200 but I think the main issue is will the BIOS support the ram correctly. I think sense they've released the last 2 updated BIOS its a lot better though. Personally I plan to get a second 512 stick putting me at 2X512MB PC2700 I know it would be better to get PC3200 but I can't afford to replace both sticks of ram. I will be doing this upgrade within the month though. If you need any detailed information on this computer don't be shy, I have done a lot of research myself and would be happy to save you time.
This site is dedicated to this model if you post there I think they will know for sure.

Hey DaGreek,
Thanx for replying. That was very encouraging.I will buy with 256 MB RAM from HP and then once I have some money put 2 sticks of 512 MB PC3200.From your reply, it feels like it does support dual channel. My machine is almost a month away as far as it being delivered to me is concerned. So kindly keep me updated.I m a student and I m buying exactly the same specs as u except for the HDD (4200 rpm) and 256 MB RAM.Also I will go in for 15' screen.u see I m tight on budget[]
Also I did post at the other forum but I couldn't find any replies with regards to dual channel ddr.But I posted another one for PC3200 and some users reported that Adata 512 MB PC3200 works fine but only singly.Corsair XMS does not in either way.The others reoprted to work fine in pairs were Crucial and Kingston.Sorry for the long post but I m interested in this one too.If it does support dual channel and PC 3200 then it is one of the better notebooks available around.Hey thanx again. If there is nething else keep posting. -
I think you'll be really happy with this computer I would suggest though if you can do it to get a wide screen, now that I have one I don't want to go back. As far as the hard drive that is my second upgrade I'm doing after the ram. The 5,400 drive isn't bad I just want to max out my system plus I burn a lot of DVD's so faster drive will help and I have an external case waiting to hold this drive when I get my 7,200 60GB drive. Back to the screen, this is just something I read but I've read it in a couple places and think its true...When you get a widescreen they have better viewing angles then the standard models I think this is something that really helps out a lot! I understand a bugget though I was on one for mine, I am also a student. I really like this computer a lot though, so I think you'll be happy with it.
