    bought at office depot and haven't opened box yet, planning on giving as gift.
    I would like to upgrade the ram.
    Is there 1 stick of 512ddr2 in it or 2 256's and what type - pc2 4200?

    If in total you have 512 MB, then it is quite likely you will have 2x256 MB modules. If you play on upgrading, just add another 1 GB. If you need to have 2 GB, then you'll have to replace both modules with 1 GB ones.
