Hi I have one of the low models from the Compaq Presario series. Lately my notebook has been making clicking noses then suddenly slowing down then shutting off completly. Has anyone gone through this? This is has been going on for nearly 2 months now and I don't know what to do. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Does it sound like the hard drive? HD Tune is a good free utility. Might want to try it.

Ok did the HD Tune and my hd is fine. I just put my laptop on a dictionary and even since my laptop hasn't shut off and its been on for 6 hours when before it would shut off after being on less than an hour. Is this a fan problem?

Fan or the hard drive are the most likely candidates.
