well my laptop tends to be very loud whether it's the fan kicking into high speeds and my harddrive spinning a lot anyway to reduce this? also it runs hot after about 40minutes to an hour of normal usage any tips or ideas on what i can do to reduce this? i mostly use the laptop on a hard flat surface so there should be good air flow going underneath it, would a laptop cooler be a good investment?

Well, is there anything running in the background using system resources. Open task manager and see if any process is using cpu resources when idle. Secondly, check to see if there is any build up of dust inside the fan exhaust vents. Use a vaccum or compressed air can to blow out any dust from the vents. Any other option would be to just raise the back of the laptop an inch or some from the desk. That should increase airflow. I would look into these before considering the cooler option.
