hello all,
Need some suggestion here
Two options now: r4000 and v2000z
First, Weight is not a problem for me. I need to get experience about the following:
1. heat. for these two models, which one handle heat problem better. lower heat means longer life.
2. GPU. r4000 has a 128 dedicated card, and does it mean it handle games much better than v2000z? I know it should, but how good it is? Big difference?
Sure will make order in this holiday season, so need your suggestion as reference.
Thanks in advance.

I'd prefer the z2000z because it will have better battery life. If you want to game, the v4000t with the x700 is a much better card. You chould consider the FAQ in the hardware forum.

The V2000Z will give you less heat and more battery life whereas the R4000 will give you better performance. I don't know how much faster its video card is compared to the one on the V2000Z.

VERY much faster x700 (dedicated) vs express 200M (integrated & shared)
thik of it as the Raedon X... line begins with X300 then X600 X700 and X800
the express 200M is like the baby X300 ===> the weakest VS the 2nd strongest now u get the picture? -
V4000t is with an intel CPU, and I want an AMD 64 CPU
If this is the case,
I rule out intel -
Pentium M is the best notebook CPU right now.

If you want to stay with AMD and get good graphics performance consider the Acer TM4400(Turion+64MB X700) or the MSI 1029(Turion+128MB X700). -
I don't do heavy gaming so my r4000 suits me perfectly. It does get kind of warm running at full power especially on my lap. I bring down the clock so it will run extremely cool. Sometimes it doesn't even break the 30 C. But at full, it hangs around 50 c average. It's a great performer

The machines both have the M200 graphics chip, so there will be limited gaming capacity on either one. The V2000 will definitely run cooler and have better battery life. I like the smaller machine and would have bought one had HP not come out with the Dv4000 which because of the X700 is a much better choice for gamers.

Why do you only want an AMD cpu? Is it because they are 64-bit capable? Just keep in mind that 64-bit is only in its infancy right now and it won't be mainstream in computers for at least 1.5 more years. Theres many, many people still buying the 32 bit only Pentium Ms and some will be keeping their machines for a while, so 32 bit software is still far from dead right now.

Well, here are your options.
R4000:
-Same GPU as V2000z, but has dedicated memory so it will perform better
-Heavier and more powerful, plus will run cooler.
V2000Z:
-Longer battery life w/ 12-cell
-Lighter and better for mobility
-Runs a bit hotter
I would recommend the V4000t if you plan to do some decent gaming. -
ATI 200M with dedicated Memory(x300) is better than shared memory ATI 200M, but difference is not great. Like if you see the bench marks, my Laptop with DDR400 ram 64MB shared(it takes upto 128 with Hyper memory) I got 634 with 3DMark05 ( 5000+ in 3dMark 01), with dedicated memory I saw figures around 720 for 3DMark05, which is better by only 15%.
If one really want powerful GPU in this series then I think X700 better option. But again for typical usage 200M is more than enough power.
BTW. ATI 200M with DDR33 64MB shared score 586 on 3DMark05.
My two cents.
compaq r4000 or v2000z
