    happy new year everyone-

i have just started using my compaq presario v2410 today and everything is great except that it doesn't close properly when i shut the lid. the latches click in place but it doesn't shut very snug or secure, but wiggles up and down quite a bit. just wondering if any other v2000 owners are experiencing this, and is there a way to remedy the situation?

    thanks a whole lot everyone...

No problem like that here to worry about, just trivial, vertical movement.

I'm affraid there's nothing you can do about it except for a screen sleeve. My lid also does not close tightly in the left corner but this is the price we pay for having cheap yet fast notebooks.

I have the same model. I bought a cleaning cloth for my screen and i usually have that in between when I close my lappy. Now the laptop is nice and snug when closed.

Compaq has one of the best latches for the lids.
So far no problem here with mine!

Mine came with a packing sheet that I have retained and use to close the lid tightly. Without it the there is a gap. Wonder if this was added to later units because of this issue. It has cut outs to fit perfectly.

I just got my V2000 a few days ago. And I have the same problem. There is a _big_ gap there. Oh well, just have to live with it. :(

yes pics will be great. If it is too big (whatever this is) you may claim defect and retern it

Mine looks exactly like that! On the same corner and everything! Cheap Chinese manufacturing. :(

the corner seems to have slight larger gap compared to mine.

other than that it's same as mine. I have no problem with slight movement (not tight/snug).

Yup, looks like its a common problem with this lappy. Both my friends and mine are similar the pics above. Tried calling HP to maybe claim defective....no luck.

I think photo is showing more than actual gap. You guys know the Wide angle lens affect when taken close snapshot.

In mine there is little gap, and does not harm anything. If you really bothered that much you can bend top latches little to inward to reduce the gap. Good thing there are steel and much stronger than those plastic ones on may lappies.

BTW, it looks like it is more on left side, but it shows like that because the LCD lid closing switch is pusing screen upwards.
I did not like the switch there, it should be integrated somewhere in the hinge.

Actually those photos were taken with my Canon S400 zoomed all the way to its longest focal length. I then used Paint Shop Pro to crop out all the junks on my table, which, BTW, is very clean now.

Exactly the same problem here. I noticed that the latch hole in this corner is the actual problem and not the lid itself. The latch inside the hole, which is supposed to hold the lid by the hook is not long enough (or is not coming out enough) to get through the whole hook of the lid. In the other corner it's a bit longer and closes tightly.

Yes the left latch not shutting completely is the problem on mine as well. Seems as though there should be some recall or replacement part made availible if the defect is so widescale.
