Hi! Somebody offered me a compaq v2309 and if there is anybody out there to help me to make a decision...would it be good enough for me? I'ts 1.6 dothan, ram 512,60 gb HD,14" xbrite,64 mb VGA,combo,xp home and 2.4 kg weight. and I wanna use it for Autocad, photoshop, corel draw, 3dmax, playing music and movies...what do u think about dothan? is it as bad as celeron? would u suggest me to go for a centrino or sonama?

Yeah, the cost would help in identifying if it is a good deal or not.

The Dothan is just the code name for the Pentium M processor. Centrino is just a marketing term for a combination of Pentium M processor, Intel chipset and Intel Wifi and Sonoma(also a code name) is just an upgrade to the Centrino package.

It will be just fine for movies and music. For the other tasks, I'm not completely sure. I can tell you that the graphics processor in it is EXTREMELY weak, so working with 3d programs is not the best thing to do with it, Photoshop should be pretty fine, unless you're working on very large projects.

Dothan is much better than Celeron. Dothan and Sonoma are both types of the Pentium M processor and Centrino is the name for when there is the Pentium M processor and an Intel wireless card.

well I'm not a professional graphic or animation maker, I am an architect and most of my graphic use is to make 3d and art works of buildings. I can use my PC for more detailed and special works.
So it would be ok if I go for a dothan one, I think! what do u think about Dell?

The processor should be fine, but I'm very worried about its graphics chip, Intel Extreme Graphics 2, its very, very weak.

So better to go for a sony one. Isn't it? But they seem so fragile and I'm that kind of persons always throw things here and there ,So it will not last for me to the end of the year I think! And I've heard compaq and dell notebooks r very diehard.
