    i'm planning on upgrading my hard drive, and im wondering what hard drives i can use.

    The only spec on notebook drives you need to be concerned about is the height or thinkness of the drive. They come in two sizes, 12mm and 9.5mm; most new notebooks use the 9.5mm drives but if the notebook is a value or low cost notebook it mat then use a 12 mm drive.

    Go straight to the Hitachi 7200RPM drives. Lots of us here have done that. Very worthwhile upgrade. Any standard 2.5"x9.5mm notebook drive should work.

    i heard that the 7200RPM drives get hot. is that true?

    No. MobileMeter says mine is currently idling at 40C. It'll get a bit hotter than that under load of course but nothing major.
