Sorry if this is a newb question, bc it seems like it is to me...
Anyways, I purchased a dv2000t about a year ago and got the 80gb hd.
So recently I upgraded to vista, but it's huge!! I did the clean install rather than the straight upgrade on top of my existing files. After installing it I only have about 30gb of free space, and I still have the recovery partion intact which is about 11 gb. So should I just wipe out the recovery partition and keep the old drive or upgrade? I burned recovery dvds when i first got the laptop btw.
So I went to Newegg and was looking around, I came across some nicely priced hard drives...

What do you experts think? Are these even compatible?
Also off topic, how do I create an icon to turn on the webcam like how it was on XP? And what happened to the green onscreen volume indicator for the touch colume adjuster? It dissappeared after I installed Vista!
thanks a lot for your time and help.

well first you need to delete the old windows partition.. go 2 your hard drive and delete the folder that say windows.old.. vista backs that up for you just in case but you wont need it anymore.. and yes delete the recovery partition since you now have a copy of vista.. that should put your free space to around 60-70 gb
-
agreed... make sure you check for the windows.old, there is also one other folder that it could have been put in put can't remember what it is... should be a .old folder though.
Also, HDD are universal... As long as you match SATA with SATA or PATA with PATA, you will be fine. Speed will depend on your preference. Size is dependent on the BIOS and OS... You will never top out Vista on a notebook (they don't make them that big in that size) and the BIOS should support 1TB or so... -
and yes all of those hard drives are compatible with your laptop because they are sata 1.5..

yea yojr is 100% right!! so just delete the old windows folder.. but after deleting the recovery partition, you are going to have to use partitionmagic to join together both partitions so that it appears that you have a single hard drive again..

thanks for the awesome, informative replies guys!!
so do u think my 80gb is sufficient so i can save money? -
how do i delete the recovery partition? Windows doesnt even let me access it. Any free alternative to partitionmagic?
thanks again!
