Hi, this is my first post on this forum and I had a few questions regarding the Compaq v2000 in canada. First off, I am a university student looking for a laptop to bring around next year. Budget isn't really a problem because half of the cost will be covered. Right now, I can only seem to find pre-configured models that I would like to upgrade. For example, I think most models come with a 1.5 GHz centrino processor, whereas I would prefer something a little faster like 1.7-1.8 GHz. Also, the hard drive only runs at 4200 rpm and I would like to get a 5400 rpm hard drive. Finally, all pre-configured models come with a 6 cell battery and I would like a 12 cell one for extended battery life.

Also, on a different note, I was wondering if hp-compaq was going to refresh this model any time soon? I am planning on making the purchase in late August or early September. Would they add a Sonoma chipset in this model in the future? If that's the case, is it worth waiting longer?

    Thanks,

    -Ben-

I'm sorry to tell you, but configurable notebooks for HP/Compaq in Canada is non-existent. That feature is only available in the US. Canada only provides pre-built models and you can only choose between those models. The US will not ship units to Canada, so you can't get it that way.

Since the V2000 has been out for a bit (I think more than a couple months) they're bound to refersh their lineup by the time the new school year kicks in.

I currently have an NX8220 myself and I really like the overall quality of the notebook (specs & looks). You may want to look into one of their Business product lines, they might have something you're looking for.
