    hello

    does the adsl modem/router of dv5235 have web interface to configure it?

    eg, in my alcatel speedtouch adsl modem/router, I visit the address speedtouch.lan in my web browser and I go to its settings (to configure NAT settings, to type the username and password of my connection etc)

    how do I do it in my dv5235 adsl modem?

    its the Intel Pro/100 VE Network

    thanks

    Hi Users,

    If I understand your question correctly you have been able to configure or re-configure your adsl modem/router previously through a different workstation using a web browser and are asking how to do the same with your DV5235. Is that correct?

    If so the answer would be yes as the setup screen is accessed via a web page by your web browser such as Internet Explorer or FireFox. Those will present you with the same screen regardless of which machine you access them from. Just go to the same "location". The exception to this would be that the site may be installed onto your pc via a diskette or CD provided by the Internet Service Provider (ISP) which would need to be run or installed on your new dv5235 in order to enable you to find speedtouch.lan.

    firstly, do laptops have routers/dsl-modems in them?

    can they connect to a dsl line by themselves? just via the phone cable?

    No, laptops do not have routers/dsl(or cable) modems. Almost all laptops only have a dial-up modem, ethernet port & wireless adaptors(optional in some laptops).

    No, you will first need to connect to a DSL modem. If you want to connect wirelessly then you will need a router as well.

    So,
    wired - Laptop->router(optional)->DSL modem
    wireless - Laptop (with wireless capability)->wireless router->DSL modem.

    Hmm...even desktops dont come with DSL modems or routers(I havent seen any). The DSL modems are usually provided by the ISP or you have to purchase on your own. The same applies to the routers as well.
