    I have a povilion dv9500.and recently bought a full hdtv(samsung m81).
I connected my laptop to the tv via the HDMI cable.and I had the best
resolution ever 1920*1080.but there is no sound coming out.
is the HDMI port giving me only the video?
how can I hear the sound from the TV?
    please help me.

    As above,

It will probably be called SPDIF. Right click and set this as your default device, and right click again and click 'test'

Digital audio output is on .
after setting it as default the spectrum was moving up but nothing is heard.
the test does not produce any sound either.
have you tested this way on your own tv?

    yes it works perfectly.
    Try:
    -Disabling the normal sound playback
-Restart the program your using to play stuff
    -Restart the whole notebook

Info for the future: you don't have to restart the notebook, just the media application you are using to playback the files.
