Hello HP owners, I've been spending quite a bit of time on the Dell forum after I made my notebook purchase (see sig) but have not received it yet, and there are a lot of negative feedbacks from the Inspiron 1520. I was wondering what the HP equivalent of it was and what would you recommend? I have a $1500 budget and I am on the verge of canceling my Dell order. I am looking for a 15 inch notebook with decent gaming capabilities.

The 8600GT wouldn't be available in any 15" HP. If you can settle for the 8400GS, then the dv2500t/dv6500t are options.
    Have you considered other manufacturers?

Yes, I will take anything at this point. Any suggestions? I've thought about the Sager 2090/Compal but I feel like it is very plain looking. I do want a little style.

Well, I'd recommend looking at the Asus F3Sv-A1 or B1. It comes with a 8600GS. It is a little plain looking, but I find it's understated design much easier to live with than the Gaudy inspirons.

I would also suggest you get the 8600GT. I recieved a 1520 2 days ago and have not had any problems yet but it seems that lots of people are haveing problems.

It's not an issue with the 8600GT per se. The only lemons are the dell 8600GTs, which have been crippled with GDDR2 memory. The other nbs with 8600GTs use DDR2, with the exception of the G1S, which uses DDR3. The advantage with going with a good 8600GT is the ability to run at lower clocks, and hence at lower temps.

To the OP. What are your gaming requirements? If not extreme(i.e Crysis/ Bioshock/ Lost planet etc), then a 8600GS should be fine.

Just WoW, maybe Sims, and Starcraft 2 when it comes out. I dont have to have a super video card, just a good one. Besides the card, which would you prefer?

The HP design makes their laptops look quite stylish as well as thin and light compared to Toshiba and Dell comparible items. Dell do offer more customization but unless you want the top notch equipment, then you wont need that. I think you should stick to the Dell, you cant get that video card with the dv6500t. Give Dell a go, you might get lucky.
