My dv5t arrives in a few days. I'm really hoping it won't be hot enough that I'll have to get a cooler but reading the comments it's looking like I'll have to (I'm a gamer). What laptop cooler(s) is(are) recommended for the dv5t? I've heard zalman 2000. Is that a good recommendation? Any other suggestions? What's the best option? Thanks!

Similar to your situation, I have a dv5z on the way and am looking into a laptop cooler.
I think I'm going to order one called the Xpad. It's only available through an independent seller on Amazon but it has 104 reviews and 90% of them are 5 stars. It doesn't use a fan system, but that's OK because most of them stop working after a few weeks/months. -
IMO the cooler master infinite would be a good choice because the air from the cooler actually reaches the notebook's vents.
-
Thank you. I'm looking in to those. Any other suggestions for the dv5t? No one seconds the zalman 2000?
-
I have the Zalman 2000 and it works very well. The NC2000 is a little bigger than the dv5t but that's actually a good thing since the vents are larger on the NC2000 compared to the NC1000. I had posted my results earlier in the main dv5t thread but here they are again:
"Wifi, after a cold bootup and waiting 10 minutes while listening to media player, here are my readings (laptop on desk):
Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo hardware monitor
Temperature sensor 0 40°C (104°F) [0x41] (core #0)
Temperature sensor 1 38°C (100°F) [0x43] (core #1)
GeForce 9600M GT hardware monitor
Temperature sensor 0 43°C (109°F) [0x2B] (GPU Core)
HDD monitor
Temperature sensor 0 34°C (93°F) [0x22] (HDD)
This is after an hour of playing Crysis:
Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo hardware monitor
Temperature sensor 0 52°C (125°F) [0x35] (core #0)
Temperature sensor 1 54°C (129°F) [0x33] (core #1)
GeForce 9600M GT hardware monitor
Temperature sensor 0 71°C (159°F) [0x47] (GPU Core)
HDD monitor
Temperature sensor 0 38°C (100°F) [0x26] (HDD)" -
Only 71 C after an hour of Crysis? And my problematic laptop is getting 99 C with an 8600M GS after 30-45 minutes of CoD4 on lowest settings possible...

^ Do you have a laptop cooler?

Cable.tac: are the vents on the Zalman directly underneath the vents of your notebook?
-
If you keep the front of the notebook flush with the front of the cooler, then there are some parts of the notebook vents that are not directly underneath the cooler vents. To solve this, I move the notebook forward about 2". This moves the notebook vents directly above the cooler vents and helps keep the notebook that much cooler.
-
This is why I think the coolermaster infinate would be better. You won't have to move it forward.
-
That may be true but the Zalman is super quiet which is a big plus. I only move the notebook forward if I'm doing heavy gaming. Otherwise, it stays centered on the cooler.
-
Thanks. I'm reading reviews for both the coolers. Also, what do you think of the NZXT Cryo LX for the dv5t?
-
Just from the pics it looks like the cooler's vent will not be directly underneath the main CPU/GPU vent.

Posted some pics of my Zalman NC2000 here:

I heard the Notepal Infinite takes air in from the back of the cooler, which might be a problem since the dv5t spews hot air out the back too.
Thanks for the pics too Cable.tac. By the way, could you post a pic of what you meant when you said "move forward 2 inches"? That'd be great. Thanks. -
does the zalman come with an ac adapter as well? i can see it eating up your battery time on the lappy
-
I don't think tv zalman has an ac adapter but you can buy a power block that can connect to a USB. I have one for my iPod.
