Your GPU is definitely holding you back, not your CPU.

I am guessing your laptop is less than a year old. So I would recommend just waiting till you have 1 year left on your warranty before selling it. There will be almost no difference in price when selling now than then. Hopefully by then you there will be the 9 series equivalent of the 8600 available and with better specs.

If you are truly looking for a gaming laptop I would take a look at a Sager. HP has a great line of laptops, but not for gaming.

I doubt you will see that much of an increase in performance for gaming. Anyways, how much is the price of the CPU you are purchasing? If I knew that I'd be able to give you a more solid, "is it worth it" answer.

I doubt you will notice that big of a performance increase, the money just wouldn't be worth it, because you would spend another $200 to have it installed. If you really wanted a laptop that can game I would sell that laptop and go look at a Sager. They are great laptops and offer a much better selection of performance video cards. See the main things that limit HP laptops is the small Front Side Bus and the video card.
